WORKON ROOFS · Tools

Build a clear résumé opening from your role, roofing experience, and next step. Use this fill-in framework without overstating your qualifications.

Complete examples for different roofing paths

These are fictional samples, not claims to copy unchanged. Use only the experience and tasks you can substantiate.

New helper

Headline: Roofing Helper Candidate | Warehouse and Material-Handling Background
Summary: Entry-level roofing candidate with warehouse experience in material organization and team handoffs. Comfortable learning documented procedures and asking for clarification before unfamiliar tasks. Seeking supervised roofing training with a crew that provides clear expectations.

Commercial service

Headline: Commercial Roofing Service Technician | Condition Reports and Assigned Repairs
Summary: Roofing service worker experienced in documenting site conditions, organizing photo records and completing assigned repairs under a foreperson. Focused on clear handoffs and distinguishing completed work from unresolved findings. Seeking continued development in commercial service systems.

Estimator transition

Headline: Assistant Roofing Estimator Candidate | Takeoffs and Document Control
Summary: Construction coordinator developing roofing takeoff and scope-review skills. Experience organizing drawing revisions, supplier information and project records. Seeking a supervised estimating role that combines quantity analysis with field learning.

Turn a weak bullet into a useful one

Weak: “Hardworking roofing professional.”
More specific: “Organized daily material lists by roof area and reported shortages to the foreman before staging.”
Only if true: add the actual project context, systems or measurable result. A number is optional; accuracy is not.

CareerOneStop recommends relevant responsibilities and accomplishments with enough context to understand the work. Keep dates, employers and job titles consistent with the application. Name credentials precisely; training attendance and professional certification are different.

Write your headline

Formula: Target role | Relevant roof systems | One useful strength

  • Commercial Roofer | TPO and EPDM Experience | Crew Installation
  • Roofing Service Technician | Inspection Documentation | Customer Communication
  • Roofing Estimator | Takeoffs and Scope Review | Commercial Projects

These examples are templates. Include only systems and responsibilities you can discuss accurately in an interview.

Write a three-sentence summary

“Roofing [role] with experience in [systems or project types]. Responsible for [two relevant tasks], with a focus on [quality, coordination, or another supported strength]. Seeking [target responsibility] with a team that values [work-related priority].”

For a first roofing position

“Entry-level roofing candidate bringing experience in [relevant work]. Known for [specific, supportable work habit] and prepared to learn under experienced supervision. Seeking a roofing crew role with structured training.”

Make the final edit

  • Replace every bracket with a truthful detail.
  • Remove vague claims such as “expert in everything.”
  • Match the summary to the actual job description.
  • Keep phone, email, and location easy to find.

Review the target job description before tailoring your résumé.

Convert duties into useful evidence

Instead of “responsible for roofing,” write a truthful task and context: “Documented service findings and prepared photo references for the foreman’s review.” Add a result only when you can support it. If a task was performed under supervision, include that distinction.
