Describe your specialty precisely
Use three parts: roof system, task and level of responsibility. “EPDM crew experience assisting with material staging and assigned installation under supervision” is clearer than “commercial expert.” If you have worked on several systems, list the ones relevant to the role and explain which tasks you performed on each.
NRCA’s designation directory separates systems and roles, including EPDM, thermoplastic, asphalt shingle, metal, foreman and service/maintenance. That is a useful reminder that roofing is not one interchangeable skill set.
When the posting combines specialties
Ask how time is divided. A service estimator/project manager may price work, coordinate crews and manage customer documentation. A sales role may involve inspections and estimating but use a different pay model. Read the duties and pay structure before deciding whether your experience fits the title.
Use the posting breakdown guide to separate required skills from preferred experience and questions for the employer.
