What these numbers do—and do not—measure

These are May 2025 BLS wage estimates shown in O*NET’s detailed table for Roofers, SOC 47-2181; the OEWS release is dated May 15, 2026 and this page was checked October 23, 2026. Texas’s hourly median is $22.13. Its 25th and 75th percentiles are $18.00 and $25.78 per hour. Those percentiles describe the distribution of covered workers; they are not official apprentice and journeyman rates.

The figures combine roofing specialties and exclude self-employed workers. They do not isolate commercial service, estimators, managers or commission-based sales. Use the exact occupation and pay structure when comparing another role. See our data methodology for wage definitions.

Work a Texas offer through a full-year budget

Illustration: $24/hour × 40 hours × 48 paid weeks = $46,080 gross. At the same hourly rate and 44 paid weeks, gross is $42,240. The $3,840 difference comes entirely from paid weeks. Add overtime only as a separate scenario using the applicable overtime rate; do not count unpromised hours as dependable base earnings.

Ask whether the work is local or traveling, where paid time begins, how weather delays are handled, whether benefits require a minimum number of hours, and who supplies tools and transport. Obtain the answers in writing. A higher advertised maximum can include overtime or commission that is not available every week.

Make a like-for-like comparison

Separate residential installation, commercial roofing, service, estimating, and management roles. Compare advertised base pay in the same area and experience band. Note whether the position is year-round, travel-based, hourly, salaried, or paid through a commission arrangement.

Account for the rest of the offer

  • Expected paid hours and weather-related interruptions.
  • Travel time, lodging, mileage, and per diem terms.
  • Health coverage, retirement benefits, and paid time off.
  • Tools or equipment you are expected to supply.
  • Training, progression, and the timing of pay reviews.

Use transparent sources

The table above reports a dated official median, not a real-time market average. Consult the Bureau of Labor Statistics occupational wage tables for the relevant geography and compare those figures with current employer offers. Record the data year and occupation so you do not compare roofers with all construction workers.
